One of the Core Values of the University of Nairobi is responsible corporate citizenship and strong social responsibility. Individual staff and students are encouraged to give back and especially to the less fortunate in society. On June 21, 2014, Mr. B. D. Njuguna, a senior assistant registrar at the Board of Postgraduate Studies, joined members of WiyakeWakini Welfare Association, a group of professionals to a visitof Destined Children Centre, Kikuyu in Kiambu County.

The association donated foodstuff, clothes, cleaning material, household items and cash. The group has visitedsuch homes annually for the last ten years. Membersspent the day socializing and bonding with the children and exposed them to various career prospects.
