The University of Nairobi will hold a research week from 22nd to 26th October, 2018 to show case the wide innovation and research activities of the University as well as to bring together global researchers through a series of international conferences. In this regard the African Women’s Studies Centre (AWSC) of the University of Nairobi will hold a conference from October 23rd -25th with the theme: “African Women’s Journey Towards Gender Equality and Social Cultural Transformation.” 

The aim of the conference is to bring together scholars involved in research on areas such as: gender issues policy and practice; social and economic and empowerment; governance and leadership; as well as documenting and preserving African women’s knowledge and experiences. This conference will provide an opportunity for networking among scholars from various backgrounds and enable participants to share practical solutions for achieving gender equality both at local, national and regional levels.

In this connection the AWSC invites abstracts from interested scholars on the following sub-themes:

·          Historical  Perspectives of Women’s  Struggle Towards Gender Equality
·          Mainstreaming Gender in  Agenda 2030
·          Indigenous Approaches to Understanding Gender Equality & Social Transformation
·          The  Legal Systems and Gender Equality 
·          Women and Devolved Governance
·          Women and the Environment
·          Women’s Economic Empowerment
·          Entrepreneurship and Women Empowerment
·          African Women and Food Security
·          Health Issues Related to African Women well-being
·          Women’s Political Leadership
·          Women’s Leadership in Traditional Society
·          African Women and the Constitution Making
·          Women, in Peace and Conflict Resolution
·          African Women in the Liberation Struggle
·          Post Independence African Women Leaders
·          African Women and Technology

Author Guidelines

Interested presenters should submit original abstract(s) of at least 200-300 words in English by July30st, 2018 via the African Women’s Studies Centre conference email: saw2018@uonbi.ac.ke to the attention of Dr.Grace Nyamongo.The Conference Organizing Committee will review abstracts and respond by August 10th 2018. Upon acceptance of abstracts, presenters will be required to submit full papers by September 20th, 2018. Participants who do not register by August 30th 2018 will forfeit their chance of participation.

3.             August  30th 2018 Conference Registration deadline

4.             September  20th 2018  Submission  of full paper

 

Submit electronic copies in Times New Roman, Font size 12, line spacing 1.5.

References and key words used in the paper should be given. The final papers will be published in the journal of AWSC: Pathways to African Feminism and Development at no cost to the authors.

2.      Postgraduate   Student Ksh. 3000

3.      East African Community Participants Ksh. 6000

4.      International  researchers  Ksh.10,000 (US 100)
