World AIDS Day Celebrations

The University of Nairobi joined the world in marking the World AIDS Day celebrations on Friday, November 30, 2018 at the Chancellor’s Court, Main Campus from 8.30 am to 4.00 pm. This year’s theme “Know Your Status" #JI-JUE, encourages everyone to know their status.

There was free HIV testing services, NCD screening, reproductive health, vibrant wellness village, eye checkup, cervical, breast and prostate cancer screening and TB screening.

Graduate School staff took part in the celebrations.

His Excellency Deputy President William Ruto Receives Letter of Award

Deputy President William Ruto today received his letter of award from the Director Graduate School, Prof. Lydiah Njenga in presence of University of Nairobi Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi. The Deputy President is set to Graduate with a Doctor of Philosophy in Plant Ecology during the 60th University of Nairobi Graduation Ceremony.

SYLFF University of Nairobi Chapter Meeting

The SYLFF University of Nairobi chapter meeting was held on 23rd November at the University of Nairobi Towers, 11th Floor. The theme was SYLFF Fellows as Agents of Change. The Fellows shared their experiences in line with the theme and philosophy of Sylff and identified the binding aspects of Fellows.

Discussions were made to determine the future of Sylff UoN chapter which was informed by recommendations of the 2016 Peace Forum report. This entailed orientation of new members, interdisciplinary collaborations, and way forward for the Chapter.

Meeting With Representative from Tokyo Foundation

The Graduate School management held a meeting with Ms.Yue Zhang, a representative from the Tokyo Foundation. The meeting was held on Friday 23rd, November at the Graduate School board room. Among the items discussed was scholarships for postgraduate students.

Blue Economy Conference

Kenya and its co-hosts Canada and Japan are inviting the world to Nairobi for the first global conference on the sustainable blue economy.

Over 4,000 participants from around the world will meet from November 26 to 28, 2018 at the Sustainable Blue Economy Conference to learn how to build a blue economy that:

  • Harnesses the potential of our oceans, seas, lakes and rivers to improve the lives of all, particularly people in developing states, women, youth and Indigenous peoples
  • Leverages the latest innovations, scientific advances and best practices to build prosperity while conserving our waters for future generations

The conference will capture concrete commitments and practical actions that can be taken today to help the world transition to the blue economy.

Prof. Wolciech Chacholski Gives 3 Day Course On Topological Data Analysis to Graduate Students

Prof. Wojciech Chachólski, Department of Mathematics, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, an algebraic topologist, but recently interested in mathematical aspects of Topological Data Analysis gave a course on how various homological tools can be used in artificial intelligence. The course was for graduate students both in pure and applied mathematics in the School of Mathematics, CBPS.

HIV/AIDS and Drug Abuse Sensitization
